The Pre-Shoot Chat & My Calm, Consent-Based Approach
Our journey together begins with a relaxed conversation. This is your chance to share every detail about your soul dog—their adorable quirks, their joys, their anxieties, their health challenges, and even their favourite treats! This open dialogue is the cornerstone of my consent-based approach.
In simple terms, this means I'm always watching your dog's body language to understand if they're saying "yes" or "no" to an interaction. I never force them into a pose or situation they aren't comfortable with. A relaxed, comfortable, and happy dog produces the most authentic, joyful, and stunning portraits, and that is my ultimate goal.
With my extensive background volunteering in rescue kennels and comprehensive training in canine first aid, I use a compassionate, patient, and gentle method. My experience has given me a profound insight into the subtle language of even the most sensitive souls—from reactive or anxious dogs who needed space to delicate ones who were a little shy of the world or new faces.
On the Day: Embracing Effortless Comfort
The day of your London dog photoshoot is all about ease and enjoyment. I embrace a serene and unhurried atmosphere, ensuring your pup feels completely safe and happy.
A Calm Start: We'll typically begin with a calm, slow walk. It's amazing how just 10 or 20 minutes of me walking alongside you can ease your dog into the experience. This thoughtful process, guided by a deep understanding of canine behaviour, ensures your cherished model is relaxed before any photography begins.
Listening to Their "Yes" and "No": My camera is secondary to your dog's comfort. I am constantly reading their body language - a relaxed posture, a soft gaze, or even a head turn - to know when they are happy to continue or when they need a break. This ensures every image is a genuine reflection of their true, joyful self.
Treats & Toys:
Pack their absolute favourite high-value treats (small, easy-to-eat pieces are best) and one or two beloved squeaky toys. These are invaluable for building rapport and capturing those joyful, authentic expressions.
Grooming & Style: Ready for Their Best Side
There is no need for an extreme makeover here! For your beloved pet photography session, I simply want your pup to look like their authentic self, the one you fall in love with daily. A gentle brush the day before and ensuring they're clean and free of excessive shedding usually does the trick.
Collars & Leads: Opt for the simple, comfortable collar and lead they're used to. I'll subtly remove leads during the retouching process, ensuring your dog appears to be freely exploring iconic London locations like Big Ben, Westminster, Buckingham Palace, or the bustling streets of Chelsea and Notting Hill.
Outfits: If your pup is a happy fashion icon, a total superstar, or a distinguished city dog, feel free to bring their favourite attire and chic accessories. From a charming bow tie to a sophisticated sweater, or simply their birthday suit, what matters most is that they are comfortable and ready to have fun. I'm here to capture their authentic personality in a way that is both artistic and timeless.
